Eric Johnson, Student Association chief of staff, announced his resignation Wednesday night during an SA meeting.

After three years with the SA, Johnson will move on to work as a member of Dennis Hastert’s campaign team.

“This is a blessing that cannot be passed up,” Johnson said.

SA President Shaun Crisler appointed John Acardo, SA director of Public Affairs, to take Johnson’s position.

“I have some pretty big shoes to fill,” Acardo said.

Despite their regret in seeing Johnson go, SA members expressed their happiness for his success and wished him the best of luck.

“I’m very, very proud of him,” Crisler said.

Diane Smith, SA office manager, said it’s exciting to know that NIU will have a voice in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Acardo will continue serving as director of Public Affairs until someone is found to fill the position.

“We are going to make this the best year for the students,” Acardo said.
