Huskies look to stop ‘Jays

The NIU women’s soccer team faces Creighton at 4 p.m. today at the Huskie Soccer Field. On Sunday, the Huskies travel to play MAC foe Buffalo.

The Huskies (0-3-0) are coming off a 3-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin on Friday.

Creighton appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season after finishing first in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bluejays (1-1-2) are coming off a 2-1 win over Iowa and a first-place finish in the 2003 Creighton Bluejay Classic.

The Huskies will play without the assistance of Jamie Figura, who is still nursing an injury and is listed as day-to-day. Kelly Kelso, Kerry Walker and Alexis Terry did not play against Wisconsin, and their status is unknown for this weekend.

Sunday will be the Huskies’ first conference game of the season against the MAC’s No. 1-ranked Bulls.

The Bulls (4-1-0) have had the last two MAC Player of the Week winners in twins Emily and Devon Russell.

“Playing against Buffalo will be a challenge for us,” NIU coach Frank Horvat said. “They are one of the better teams on our schedule.”
