Tekes top other Greeks for Huskie spirit award
September 3, 2003
Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity members know how to show their Huskie spirit.
In fact, they were presented with this year’s Greek Cup trophy at NIU’s football game last Thursday night. This award is given to the fraternity or sorority with the best attendance at all NIU sporting events.
The Tekes are excited about this upcoming year with NIU sports.
“I like to go to a lot of the football games; it’s nice to get all the fraternity brothers together,” said T.J. Goebig, a Teke member and junior marketing major.
Scott Parker, president of the fraternity, said although it was an honor for the fraternity to win this award, it was nice to be recognized at the Huskies’ sold out football game Thursday.
“It’s important for every Greek organization to support NIU athletics,” Parker said. “We love going to games anyway; the trophy was just a bonus.”
Parker said the fraternity feels that regardless of the trophy, supporting your team is something everyone should do.
“I don’t think there should be an incentive to get Greeks to go to NIU sporting events,” said Vince Govea, a Teke member and junior physical education major. “It’s something we should do anyway. There’s no reason the stadium shouldn’t be filled like it was Thursday at every game.”
