URL offers sanctuary away from home

By Sylvia Fuentes and Ed.

Dear Students,

Welcome Back! As the director of the University Resources for Latinos, I would like to give some detail about our department and how we can better serve the needs of the Latino community.

The URL is a home away from home to our growing community. We offer UNIV 101, which helps new students get adjusted to the campus. Also, we offer CAHC 490, which is a Latino leadership class designed to help mentor other students.

Giving the students all the tools they need for a successful college experience is top priority to us.

In addition, the URL does academic and social programming on a regular basis. Last spring, we hosted the Ladies Nite Out Comedy Jam featuring Patty Vasquez. Some of our programs include time management workshops, guest speakers and peer mentoring.

Our office also houses a room for organizations to use, a computer lab and an art gallery. Our computer lab is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The University Resources for Latinos is a department dedicated to recruiting and retaining Latino students. Feel free to stop in to meet some of our staff and/or to take part in any of our programs.

Our department is located on 515 Garden Road, across from Anderson Hall, near the Engineering Building and Barsema Hall.

Feel free to call us at 753-1986 or [email protected].
