Bars face liquor hearings

By Libby John

Six local establishments will be summoned to a liquor hearing Monday for alleged violations.

Those charged are: Andy’s Lounge, 317 E. Lincoln Highway; DeKalb Liquor Mart, 1353 E. Dresser Road; Mardi Gras Lanes, 1730 Sycamore Road; Stadium Club, 1311 W. Lincoln Highway; The Annex Lord Stanley’s, 156 E. Lincoln Highway; and The Barn, 1215 Blackhawk Ave.

Andy’s, DeKalb Liquor, Mardi Gras and Stanley’s all were charged with allowing minors in their establishments, serving them alcohol and allowing them to consume and possess alcohol.

Stadium Club and The Barn have amended charges, meaning more violations were reported after their March compliance checks.

Stadium Club also is charged with allowing a two-week time period during which the kitchen was closed and no food was served.. That would be a violation of the establishment’s Class E liquor license, which states at least 60 percent of sales have to be from food and non-alcoholic beverages, and no more than 40 percent of sales can be from alcoholic beverages.

The Barn faced more charges of allowing minors into the establishment, as well as serving them and letting them consume alcoholic beverages. The Barn also is charged with serving alcohol in the non-bar area.

No one from Stadium Club or The Barn was available for comment.

None of the establishments conducted violations recently, except for Stadium Club, which was charged for serving minors in 2002.

Ely said most of the charges stemmed from compliance checks conducted by the DeKalb Police Department. The maximum sentence the establishments can get is a liquor license revocation.
