Sheriff’s deputy released from hospital

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy injured Wednesday after an encounter with a citizen since has been released from the hospital.
The officer was attacked by Jason Parker, 33, of 540 1/2 Haish Blvd.
DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott said the officer had broken fingers and had surgery on his hand.
The officer will be out for about 12 weeks.
The sheriff’s deputy was on his way to the defendant’s residence to follow up on an accident with the defendant’s vehicle. His vehicle reportedly went into a ditch.
While completing the report, Parker reportedly attacked and attempted to disarm the officer.
According to police reports, the officer was struck several times on the head and body.
The deputy was able to fight him off and call for backup. Scott also said several neighbors heard the commotion and called police.
“We don’t know the exact cause [of his outburst],” Scott said.
Parker barricaded himself into his apartment and inflicted several knife wounds upon himself.
DeKalb, Malta, NIU and DeKalb County police all were called to the scene.
Parker was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and attempting to disarm a police officer.
Scott said the maximum sentence is two to five years in jail.
Parker posted bond Thursday evening and will appear in court July 25.
