Hearing to be held on fate of The Dungeon
The fate of The Dungeon is set to be determined at Friday’s morning revocation hearing.
City Attorney Margo Ely officially petitioned to have the teen club’s license revoked and the owner fined on Feb. 18. Ely cited six specific instances in which the club was in violation of the DeKalb Municipal Code in her Feb. 19 press release. Violations included fighting, insufficient security, insufficient seating, littering and allowing the presence of alcohol.
The Dungeon, a type-B teen club open to those 18 and older, is required by the Municipal Code to be alcohol-free. The code also requires the licensee to have one qualified security guard for every 25 patrons, as well as have seating for 50 percent of the patrons in attendance. The other regulations in question include those naming the manager and licensee as responsible to ensure that patrons do not loiter and create a public disturbance, as well as have litter removed within eight hours of closing time.
The hearing will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Conference Room 212 of the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St. By Rachel Helfrich
New policy begins on April 1 for commerical driver exams
This week, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced he was implementing a new policy on April 1 that will require all commercial drivers in Illinois to take their written exams on automated testing machines that scramble questions. The testing machines randomly select questions from a pool of 900.
White has already installed the testing machines for truck drivers at 20 regional CDL facilities in the state.
The Secretary of State’s office has spent $100,000 to equip the 16 downstate regional CDL facilities and $200,000 for each Metropolitan Chicago CDL facility.
Under the new policy, all written and driving tests must be taken at a regional facility.
To schedule tests at one of the four metropolitan Chicago facilities in advance, applicants may call (630) 293-1191. To schedule a test at other CDL facilities, applicants may call (217) 785-3013.
