Plan to outline DeKalb growth

By Nick Swedberg

The conclusion of the Growth Summit will hold the future of the development for DeKalb.

After the final meeting on May 13, the members of the summit will submit a summary on desired development to the city council, said Jim Connors, DeKalb city manager.

The purpose of the summary is to give an idea of the desired rate of growth, type of growth and how much the city will grow. These desires will be included in the city’s comprehensive plan, Connors said.

Before the Growth Summit meetings began, the comprehensive plan was nearly complete, Connors said. Now, with the addition of the conclusions of the growth summit, the city can finish what they started.

Paul Rasmussen, community development director, said he has been asked to put together a list of questions to jog policy decisions on growth. From this discussion, the group should be able to come up with a summary report it wishes to submit.

Rasmussen said the group will review it before submission to the council.

The comprehensive plan will outline the goals for the city’s development for the next decade.

Connors hopes the others take the conclusions back to their respective groups.
