Savannah Green proposal is back for reconsidertaion
April 24, 2003
Savannah Green is back, and once again Mike Suhadolnik of Construx of Illinois will attempt to entice the city council into reconsidering the proposal.
Suhaldonik will take part in a public hearing at Monday night’s city council meeting regarding the Savannah Green pre-annexation agreement originally proposed for the development located on Twombly Road.
The plan has been tweaked somewhat, with perhaps the most notable change being the reduction of the original 881 single family detached lots to 795. The subdivision also looks to set aside a 9.3 acre plot of land for a school and 3.18 acres for commercial use.
This public hearing also is an effort to show the council the concerns the plan commission had over Savannah Green have been revised.
The plan commission initially disapproved of the entire proposal with a majority vote (minus one member present), but the commission would like to receive some direction from the city council if it is to continue pursuing this development for approval, now in its revised state.
Another public hearing is scheduled, as Ken Nelson, resident of Maple Park, will look to convince the council of an 18-acre annexation agreement on the south side of Ridge Drive. This 45-lot subdivision would be what Community Development Director Paul Rasmussen called an “in-fill project.”
An in-fill project is one that would simply fill in existing open space that in this case is in the middle of many housing and apartment complexes. This subdivision is said to be similar to the Rolling Crest and Hillcrest subdivisions.
Since both are public hearings, they won’t be acted upon by the city council. They will, however, give feedback to the plan commission as to how both projects should be handled.
The city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Council Chambers, 200 S. Fourth St.
