DAWC exhibit is in honor of Women’s History Month
The DeKalb Area Women’s Center is hosting its annual Women’s History Month Art Exhibition, which will run until March 28. The public is welcome to view the exhibition and attend an opening reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on March 6.
Art on display includes paintings, ceramics, installation, sculptures and drawings from the DeKalb community and NIU female faculty and graduate students. The gallery will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Fridays. The center is located at 1021 State St. To arrange viewings by appointment, call 758-1351.
Event sponsors include the DeKalb Area Women’s Center, NIU’s School of Art and the women’s studies program.
DeKalb Red Cross chapter to host fundraiser
The DeKalb County Chapter of the American Red Cross will host a fundraiser during the last week of March in honor of American Red Cross Month.
Also, some businesses will display fundraising canisters for contributions. Volunteers with canisters in hand will collect donations at various locations on March 28 and March 29.
Donations also can be sent to the American Red Cross, DeKalb County Chapter, 2727 Sycamore Road, Suite 2A, DeKalb, IL 60115. For information, call the chapter at 756-7339.
Red Cross will offer instructor courses
The American Red Cross DeKalb County Chapter is offering a first aid/CPR/AED instructor course in three sessions that includes fundamentals of instructor training.
The sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 23, April 6 and April 13. Attendance at all three sessions is required.
Cost for the course is $120 and includes all materials. For information or to register, call 756-7339.
National Kidney Month to be held in March
March is National Kidney Month and the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois urges people to get facts about kidney disease. It is calling for citizens to get check-ups with their local physicians.
According to a National Kidney Foundation public service announcement, 1 in 9 Americans has kidney disease, while another 20 million are at risk. For information on kidney disease, call the National Foundation of Illinois at (312) 321-1500.
Hastert to hold Spring Cocktail Reception
The Hastert for Congress Committee will host its annual Spring Cocktail Reception fundraiser on March 28. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. at Walter Payton’s Roundhouse in Aurora.
Guest speaker is Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.). Individual tickets for the fundraiser cost $75.

Fox Valley peace group to hold anti-war demonstration
The Fox Valley Citizens for Peace will hold an anti-war demonstration Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Charles on the bridge across the Fox River.
March 8 is International Women’s Day, also declared Code Pink Day. Participants are asked to wear something bright pink.
