Service sorority gears up to move in

Greek Row still may look the same; however, unseen changes are in the works to create a home for the ladies of service sorority Sigma Lambda Sigma.

Behind the beer-stained doors of the former Delta Chi house, 908 Greenbrier Road, lies a work in progress to clean up the grounds for the service sorority.

“It’s a big step for us to have a house,” said House Chairwoman Jackie Khooshabeh.

Last weekend, members of Sigma Lambda Sigma held a house cleanup to further the cleaning and renovating process.

Many other Greek houses assisted Sigma Lambda Sigma in its efforts.

So far, much of the old tiling has been stripped, and most of the formal room is finished.

“We’re not done yet, but we have a lot accomplished,” said Angela Nardiello, Sigma Lambda Sigma media chairwoman.

Improvements in the home will include repainting the walls, new carpeting, new kitchen appliances and major bathroom renovations.

About 25 girls will reside in the house this fall, including two members who live in the connecting apartment.

The renovations should be complete by July, and members will be able to move in by August, Khooshabeh said.

The ladies are looking forward to moving in, having just celebrated their 40th anniversary on campus.

“Everything is going along great,” Khooshabeh said. “We are just so excited to be moving in.”

The ladies plan on holding an open house barbecue come August once they’ve settled in.

“We know a lot of people will be curious to see what it looks like,” Khooshabeh added. “We’ve had the blinds closed the whole time we’ve been renovating.”
