It’s time to get a job

Representatives from Sherman Williams, Target, Wallace Print Sales and LaSalle Bank were giving out information on their companies and recruiting future employees at the Professional Networking Seminar and Reception held Friday at Neptune Central.
“It’s weird being here,” said Chrystal Chisim, executive team leader of guest services and NIU alumni. “I can remember being on the other side of the table, and I definitely like being on this side better.”
The seminar was sponsored by the Alpha Phi Alpha Alumni Chapter and was coordinated by Keith Barnes, corresponding secretary of the Alpha Phi Alpha Alumni Chapter.
“We have a room here that’s set up for anyone who wants help in their future careers,” Barnes said. “We have tables set up so people can see the job opportunities that are out there.”
Enterprise Rent-A-Car was handing out free popcorn, key chains and stress balls shaped like cars.
The seminar was set up in part of NIU’s Black Alumni Awards Weekend.
“NIU actually asked us to bring out minority recruiters to help out today,” said Taurus Gunn, market manager of Sherman Williams in Evanston. “We’ve done one mock interview today, and it went really well. We give constructive criticism on how to improve interview skills and also how to improve resumes. The most important thing is to try to spruce up your resume. It’s important to have yours stand out above the rest.”
