Brawl erupts on Greek Row leaving police with no leads, no arrests
March 31, 2003
DeKalb police responded to a call at 1:42 a.m. Friday outside the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity house, 829 Greenbrier Road, regarding fighting in the city.
Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department said about 40 individuals were reportedly involved when the complainant phoned.
Witnesses said a large brawl on Greek Row early Friday morning occurred because of a dispute over a girl.
When officers arrived, the crowd had scattered and no arrests were made.
Witnesses at the scene said most of the subjects involved in the fighting came away with cuts and bruises, but two others were in far worse shape.
Two hours after the incident, police were again called, but this time to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 626 Bethany Road. Hospital officials telephoned DeKalb police after treating a badly beaten individual. But before police could arrive, however, the victim left the hospital, unwilling to press charges.
