DeKalb Police responded to a 911 cell phone call from a battered and robbed person Wednesday night.

According to DeKalb Police, a theft occurred about 7:30 p.m. at the 800 block of Greenbrier Road.

Police Corporal Tom Petit said the incident is “simple theft,” adding that the battered victim thought he was hit with a gun.

An unknown amount of money was taken from the victim, Petit said.

DeKalb Police have yet to confirm whether the object used in the robbery was a gun. The victim received a cut on his head and later was released from Kishwaukee Hospital.

According to police, they are seeking two males, one wearing a black jacket and one wearing a gray jacket. They were described as clean-cut and were seen heading north.

Two covert task force officers identified two individuals matching the suspects’ description on Huskie Bus 5801.

At about 8:30 p.m., the bus arrived at the Holmes Student Center, and the two officers boarded the bus and detained the suspects.

“The police officers came and blocked the bus here,” said graduate anthropology student Aaron Rice, a witness to the incident.

Rice said he saw the officers board the bus and take the suspects to the side of the student center.

The two men were released without being arrested shortly after being detained by police.
