Huskies face No. 11 Michigan

With its confidence peaking, the NIU gymnastics team travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the University of Michigan at 7 p.m. today.

The Huskies (5-6, 1-2) are coming off their best performance of the season, scoring a 194.675 against Bowling Green as they stopped their conference dual meet losing streak at 17.

Now they must go up against a Big-Ten program that is 11th in the nation and coming off a 25-win season.

“They’re a high rank team no matter where we come out,” senior Laura Hale said. “We just want to hit like we did last week.”

The Wolverines are, however, coming off their worst performance of the season, as they scored a 193.900 at the State of Michigan Classic.

“Michigan is definitely less scary now,” Hale said.

Besides putting up their highest score since March 11, 2001, nine Huskie gymnasts set season highs last Sunday.

All coach Mark Sontag is looking toward is another strong performance out of his revived squad.

“We just want to go in there and try to get a good road score,” Sontag said. “And if we happen to beat them, I’ll take it.”
