Gymnastics takes on Falcons
February 7, 2003
After going on the road and ending up with two fourth place finishes, the NIU gymnastics team returns home to take on Bowling Green at 2 p.m. Sunday at Victor E. Court.
The Huskies (4-6, 0-2) will be facing the Falcons in their first dual meet since the opener. After coming up short in the last event in their previous two meets, the Huskies will look to perform more routines with higher degrees of difficulty.
“We’re kicking up the routines right now,” coach Mark Sontag said. “Trying to really work on one or two tenth deductions that seem to come down to whether we win or lose the meets this year.”
More than two weeks have passed since NIU’s last meet, giving them plenty of time to sharpen their skills. Freshmen Ashlee Williams, sophomore Kristina Campos and senior Anna Gardina all will try to top their floor scores of over 9.800 the last time out.
The Huskies are hoping to do their best as they face MAC opponents in four of their next five meets.
“As far as competing against MAC teams, I think Sunday’s meet will set the tone for the upcoming season,” sophomore Kristina Campos said.
