Gymnastics finishes fourth

The NIU women’s gymnastics team flew through the Illinois Quadrangular on Friday until it hit a roadblock in the last event and finished in fourth place.

The Huskies looked sharp going into the last event, but the uneven bars proved to be too much for NIU as they finished with a 189.625 by managing just a 45.675 on the uneven bars.

“We were in a good spot and given the circumstances, we would have beaten Ball State had we stayed on the bars, but it was a bad time for us to miss,” coach Mark Sontag said.

Senior Anna Gardina was the leader for the Huskies as she finished fifth in the all-around scoring a 38.850. Gardina and sophomore Kristina Campos placed third on floor exercise with a 9.900.

After being declared academically ineligible, the Huskies were without senior Tiffany Nolen. Freshman Ashlee Williams filled in for her and put up a 37.400 in her first collegiate all-around.
