ILR plans trip to Kansas City museums
The Northern Illinois University Institute for Learning in Retirement will travel to Kansas City by train on the Feb. 20 weekend.
Cost to attend is $329 for a train ticket, a bus ride, as well as dinner and tours. Tours include the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Union Station, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Christian Community Church and the Liberty Memorial.

Education leader to address various issues at NIU
Penelope Earley, director of the Center for Education Policy at George Mason University, will speak at 10 a.m. on Feb. 21 at the Stevens Building on issues relating to the federal government, and preschool to higher education. Earley worked for the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.
NIU professor and dance company invited to share dance
Professor Charles Carter and the department of kinesiology and physical education’s dance group have been asked to share a modern dance in Washington, D.C. “The AIDS Project: Straight Up, Straight Talk,” devised by Carter three years ago, tells the saga concerning the ongoing plague of HIV and AIDS.
The group will perform Jan. 17 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts during a salute to black choreographers.
Nominations open for Outstanding Service Award
Four NIU civil service employees were presented with an Outstanding Service Award, which recognizes employees who have demonstrated outstanding service while on the job. Winners are given a $1,000 award and a plaque recognizing their commitment. Nominations can be submitted by both retired and current NIU employees. Nomination forms can be viewed at http://www.niu.edu/osc/osc.htm. Nomination packages must be submitted no later than Feb. 28.
SCL helps individuals with analytical questions
The Division of Statistics’ Statistical Consulting Laboratory is open for the spring semester. The SCL is open to students, faculty members and administration until April 26.
The SCL helps individuals with questions regarding the interpretation of computer print-outs, appropriate analysis of data and presentation of statistical results.
The first three hours of consulting are free and a schedule of fees is available for additional hours.

Museum studies program and art museum to sponsor exhibit
Thanks to the NIU Museum Studies Program and NIU Art Museum, the exhibit, The University Collects: Objects and Visual Pedagogy Across the NIU Campus, is on display at the Jack Olson Memorial Gallery, located on the second floor of the Art Building.
The objects, artifacts and images in the exhibit have been selected from other collections and departments on campus to explain NIU’s scholarly expertise.
A series of brown bag talks will be presented in conjunction with the exhibit on three consecutive Fridays: Jan. 17, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. The exhibit runs from Jan. 13 to Jan. 31. A public reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 23.
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment Monday through Friday.
