Police seek new home

The DeKalb School District, park district and public works department have seen facility expansions, and the city currently is looking at providing the same opportunity for the police department.

DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen conveyed to the city council at Monday night’s council workshop that over the past decade, the police have had problems with a growing force and additional technologies and requirements. With significant growth in DeKalb, the police department would need an increase in their police force to complement the projections of 50,000 DeKalb residents within the next 10 years.

Williams Architects Principal Mark Bushhouse displayed the three proposed sites with artist renditions, outlining the pros and cons each site would entail if chosen.

The first option is to expand on the police department’s current site within the Municipal Building at 200 S. Fourth St. One option is to add a two-level parking garage to accommodate visitors and employees.
