Winter robberies hit DeKalb
January 13, 2003
The DeKalb Police Department is looking for information about three armed robberies that occurred during Winter Break.
The first happened about 10:45 p.m. Jan. 2 at Subway, 162 W. Lincoln Highway, in DeKalb.
Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department said a woman working at the counter saw a man approaching the store and pull the ski mask over his face. She then hid herself before the man came in. He left without taking anything.
Ten minutes later, Dollar Video, 1127 W. Lincoln Highway, was held up. Kayes said the man implied he had a gun and got away with an undetermined amount of money.
A few days later, at 7:20 p.m. Jan. 6, Ultra Tan, 1023 W. Hillcrest, in DeKalb was robbed. The suspect was seen running northbound from the south end of the block. Like the previous case, the suspect had implied that he had a gun.
“It’s probably the same guy,” Kayes said.
The man the police are seeking is white, about 5-foot-8-inches” with a thin build. He allegedly was seen wearing dark clothing, he also allegedly brown hair and a high pitched voice.
The police do not have leads at this time. CrimeStoppers is urging anyone with information to call 895-3272.
