Stallions to trot to Convo Center
January 15, 2003
Royalty will invade the city of DeKalb and the red carpet will be rolled out this February when the world’s famous Lipizzaner Stallions come to town.
The stallions will trot into the Convocation Center to show their talents in front of NIU students and the surrounding communities. The Lipizzan is a unique breed of horses that were used for battles and considered the horse of the aristocrats, according to www.lipizzaner.com. The show was created by Gary Lashinsky in 1970 and has since attracted millions of people around the world.
This is a show that people shouldn’t miss, said Joe Coots, marketing director for the Convo Center.
Coots said that there are only a few hundred stallions left in the world, and that it is a good show that families and students will enjoy seeing.
The stallions perform a variety of music routines such as leaping in the air.
They also are very creative at times, Coots said.
Although the show is appealing, students like Sonja McIntyre doesn’t plan on attending the event.
“I would rather spend my money taking my kids to the circus,” the senior elementary education major said. “When individuals at the Convo Center plan events for students and family members they need to remember that the parents are the ones paying to attend the event.”
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Convo Center. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at all Ticketmaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com, the Convo Center box office or by phone at (312) 559-1212. Ticket prices range from $15.50 to $25.50.
