Stress relief
December 4, 2002
The Amish Armada will sail into DeKalb to perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Holmes Student Center’s Diversions Lounge.
The Chicago band will perform as part of the CAB Concerts Local Music Showcase Series.
“We knew we wanted something funny, and after hearing about Amish Armada, I knew they were it,” CAB Concerts Coordinator John Ugolini said.
Ugolini described the Amish Armada as “a group of rambunctious, ill-tempered Amish vigilantes who are the antithesis of the mild-mannered Amish stereotype.”
The band includes vocalist Living Dead Elijah Damned, lead guitarist Ezekiel the Maliced, bassist Jakob the Malevolent and drummer Jebodiah the Hunted.
“It is a humorous show for people to relax at before facing finals,” Ugolini said.
Besides Amish Armada, the band ShortBus will perform as the supporting act. ShortBus will follow several acoustic performances by DeKalb-area musicians, including Andy Herald of Bicycle Day.
Stress-relieving activities will be provided at the show, including board games, coloring books and stress balls. Hot chocolate will be provided as well. Students are welcome to bring pillows and blankets, and asked to dress comfortably in spirit with the relaxed atmosphere.
Several contests are scheduled during the event, including balloon- and bubble-wrap-breaking contests, as well as rounds of Twister. At the end of every band’s set, a drawing will be held to declare a “King/Queen of the Night.” The winner will be awarded a seat on a stage-side couch.
The event is free and doesn’t require tickets. For information, call CAB at 753-1580 or visit www.niu.edu/cab.
