A two-car accident late Thursday night left two people dead and two more hospitalized.

Malta resident Brandi Smith and Ashton resident Darrell Christenson were killed after Smith reportedly lost control of her vehicle on South Malta Road.

According to police reports, Smith lost control of her 1986 Cadillac while traveling west on the road. Her vehicle collided with another car, which had been traveling east on Malta Road.

The front of the second vehicle, driven by DeKalb resident Donald E. Koelpin, reportedly hit the driver’s side of Smith’s car.

Koelpin was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, as was a 16-year old passenger in Smith’s car.

Smith and Christenson were both 21 years old. Smith would have turned 22 on Sunday.
