Allgood sentencing begins

By J.D. Piland

Former NIU student Todd Allgood was in court Monday for his sentence for criminal sexual assault.

About six weeks ago, the 34-year-old Allgood was convicted for the April, 2001, kidnapping and criminal sexual assault of a former NIU student.

The hearing opened with two victims of past sexual assaults that have been linked to Allgood. Because the assaults occurred in 1989 and 1990, respectively, with no convictions because of expired statutes of limitations, the victims could not take the stand in the criminal trial.

The first victim said that in 1989, in Mundelein, she was abducted at gunpoint by a man in a ski mask and forced to have sexual intercourse.

The other victim took the stand and told Assistant State’s Attorney Clint Hull her story of when she was raped in 1990, which also took place in Mundelein.

Her testimony was similar to the previous victim. She said a masked man abducted her at gunpoint and forced her to have sexual intercourse.

Hull said he is unsure of what sentence Allgood will get, but expects the decision to be made today.

The hearing is scheduled to continue at 10:30 a.m. today at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore.
