Shots fired on Greek Row
November 11, 2002
A Huskie post-victory celebration ended when a man allegedly fired shots early Sunday morning.
DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said the incident took place at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the 800 block of Greenbrier Road. No one was injured.
At press time, investigators were talking to witnesses and sorting out details, Feithen said.
Police were unable to release any information about the shooter.
Several dozen people or more were in the area at the time of the shooting, Feithen said.
“That’s why it is taking a while,” he said. “The investigation is going rather slow at this point because of the numbers involved.”
Rich Deverdier, a senior economics major, said the incident originated at a party at an apartment complex at 817 Greenbrier Road, which is down the street from where he lives.
Deverdier said he heard shots fired once or twice, but was unsure of the exact number and where they came from.
Deverdier said a man with a gun walked from the party to the area behind Normal Road Apartments. The man then brandished a gun in front of some cars, he said.
