Alpha Phi Omega will honor Joseph Gentile at its first-annual “Person of the Year” banquet.
Nicholas Utech, the fundraising coordinator at Alpha Phi Omega, said the fraternity has been organizing the banquet for about five months.
The banquet is being held in association with Habitat for Humanity, and will honor Gentile for donating millions of dollars to schools, churches and charity organizations in the Chicago area, Utech said.
Utech worked with Gentile before when his high school honored Gentile as its Person of the Year.
Gentile is from Chicago and owns AM 1530, as well as Joe Gentile Chrysler Plymouth in Barrington.
“It’s going to be a formal event, including dinner, dancing, entertainers and auctions,” Utech said.
He also said there will be an live auction for some of the more valuable prizes.
One half of the proceeds from the auctions will go to Habitat for Humanity and the other will go to Alpha Phi Omega.
There are about 35 auction prizes ranging from $70 to $700 in value. Some of the prizes include event tickets, restaurant gift certificates, luggage, jewelry, toys, artwork, books and electronics.
Utech expects 150 to 200 people to attend.
Everyone who attends will receive a thank you bag with contents worth more than $100.
DeKalb’s Hillside Restaurant will cater the event.
Tickets are available for purchase until Nov. 14.
