Sycamore Road could see more expansion
October 24, 2002
More stores soon may grace Sycamore Road.
The DeKalb City Council will decide on that and other issues at its Monday night meeting.
The First Rockford Group has petitioned for Final Plan approval of Lot 2, located south of Mattress Giant, near Old Navy and T.J. Maxx.
City Manager Jim Connors said small stores and possibly a coffee house would be located there.
The Planning Commission approved this ordinance at its last meeting.
The council also will discuss issues regarding Northland Plaza.
One ordinance is about the lettering size for the wall signs of stores that will come there. It calls for the smaller stores to have smaller signs, while larger stores can have signs of regulation size.
Also at the meeting, Police Chief Bill Feithen is expected to ask for a three-month extension to further review city towing contracts.
On Sept. 23, a public hearing about towing was held where community members gave their input.
There was a petition for the police department to start a rotating contract, in which several towing companies could participate.
But according to the council agenda, Feithen thinks this procedure would hinder the operation.
The city council will meet at 7 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 200 S. Fourth St.
