Dungeon opens doors

Starting this weekend, students born after 1981 can do more on their weekends than have Blockbuster nights.

A new club, The Dungeon, located at 1025 W. Hillcrest Drive, opened last night to people 18 and older.

The club will be open from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday nights, and 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

The cover charge is $10 on Thursday and Friday nights. The club will have promoters on Saturday night who will decide the cover charge.

There will be no alcohol served at the facility and those going should dress casually. There is no head gear allowed.

David Hana, owner and a freshman business management major at NIU, started the club along with three other guys from party promotion group Top Rock Productions.

The group went out to different dance clubs, like the Dragon Room and Sluggers, both located in Chicago, and advertise for other people to go out there.

“We’d bring in about 500 people per night,” Hana said.

The group then found out about the facility and that it was open, and decided to go for it.

Even though the track record for 18-and-older clubs in DeKalb is not good, Hana thinks The Dungeon will be an exception.

“We heard about past clubs,” Hana said. “We found out their weaknesses so we don’t make the same mistakes.”

One of the advantages he thinks the club has is that they play good music.

They plan to bring in DJ Energy (hip-hop mix style), DJ Miracle and Jammin Johnny (house music) and DJ Switch (hip-hop, salsa and merengue).

Adriana Montiel, a freshman business major, said she would consider going.

“There are not many clubs that I know about,” she said. “I would definitely check it out.”

Montiel said she would go because she would probably like the music.

“It’s a good combination,” she said.

Kristina Janer, a freshman business major, said the cover charge would probably stop her from going.

“If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d go,” Janer said. “I’m a college student, I don’t have $10.”
