7-Eleven employee attacked
October 29, 2002
DeKalb police are investigating an alleged assault and robbery that occurred at 10 a.m. Monday at 7-Eleven, 930 N. Annie Glidden Road.
Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department said a female employee of 7-Eleven was leaving the building with the store bankroll when she allegedly was attacked by two men.
The woman was hit in the face with a spray aerosol can of Envy cleaner. She was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital after suffering a gash on the nose, Kayes said.
Kayes added that this type of cleaner is of an industrial nature. Envy is not available commercially and it could have come from a dorm or rooming house, Kayes said.
DeKalb police currently are searching for two Hispanic men of average height (5-foot-9-inches) and average weight in their mid-20s.
A witness identified both men as wearing blue hooded sweatshirts, and the store’s video cameras caught one of the alleged robbers on tape.
The man caught on tape was wearing acid-washed jeans and white shoes, Kayes said.
The two men were seen last on foot heading toward Greenbrier and Russell roads.
“They very well may live near Greenbrier and Russell,” Kayes said.
Kayes said the canine unit was brought out to search for the two suspects.
DeKalb police are questioning employees and former employees of the 7-Eleven store for possible involvement in the alleged robbery.
Kayes was unable to release any specific information on the amount taken, but said that any figures currently circulating are inaccurate.
Anyone with information about the two suspects can call the DeKalb Police Department at 748-8400 or Crimestoppers at 895-3272.
