Ontario prof. to give feminism lecture
October 8, 2002
Angela Miles, a professor of adult education at the Ontario Institute for Studies and Education, is at NIU today to discuss feminism and social change.
Miles is in DeKalb as part of the 21st annual Midwest Research to Practice Conference in Adult Continuing and Community Education.
“I’m excited,” said Richard Orem, director of the Office of Research Evaluations. “Angela Miles has a lot of interesting ideas, and her lecture should be quite informative.”
Miles’ lecture will focus on community development, social movements, feminist theories, critical analysis of advanced industrial society, globalization and international development, gender and development and social change.
Miles has written several books about these topics, including “Integrative Feminisms: Building Global Visions, 1960s-1990s.” In addition to her books, Miles also has written articles in her native Canada and the United States.
DeKalb resident Jenessa Vellos also is excited to see Miles speak.
“I think it’s great that someone with such innovative and creative ideas is coming here to Northern,” Vellos said. “I feel it is a great learning experience for both faculty and students.”
