City Council to vote Greek Row project

Greek Row could be on its way to make major improvements after Monday night.

The Greek Row Neighborhood Revitalization Plan will come before the DeKalb City Council for approval.

“The only change that was made was the lighting survey map and re-wording in the beginning,” said Nicolette Grenell, community development intern and principle author of the Greek Row Neighborhood Revitalization plan.

Grenell said that so far, only positive feedback has come from the community.

“People are happy to see some type of change,” she said.

Another issue the council will tackle is Hillcrest Drive parking restrictions.

The new ordinance calls to restrict parking on Hillcrest Drive from Normal Road to Fox Hollow West from 2 to 7 a.m. Currently, parking is prohibited from 2 to 6 a.m.

The council also will be asked to approve an agreement with engineering services company Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick for developing South Annie Glidden Road from Lincoln Highway to the tollway.

The amount of the agreement will be $755,948, and construction of the roads can take up to 18 to 24 months.

Assistant city engineer Joel Maurer said he hopes for federal and state -funding for the project.

“It will impact farmland and farm area,” Maurer said.

Another final agreement that also will be considered regards Kohl’s Department Store.

The agreement will limit the city’s contribution to improve the property to $775,000, which is consistent with the resolution that was passed at the city council’s Sept. 23 meeting.

Tom Cleveland, Taylor Municipal Airport manager, discussed an ordinance to have construction on Barber Greene Road and Pleasant Street.

“It will not have much impact of traffic,” Cleveland said. “The roads will be closed for two weeks.”

The construction would start in November and should be completed in the fall of 2003.

The city council meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at City Council Chambers, located on 200 S. Fourth St.
