County Board District 5
Carl J. Heinisch – Republican

Kevin Miller – Republican
He is the current Student Association president.
He wants to have a well-guided plan for economic development in DeKalb County.
He wants to have balance between economic growth and maintain what DeKalb already has, like farmland.
Richard Osborne – Democrat
He was interested in government and saw a chance to run.
He is interested in safety issues and wants to make sure enough money is spent on them.
He wants to keep growth balanced between opportunities and keeping what DeKalb already has to offer.
Robert Rosemier – Democrat
He wants to help maintain and improve the quality of life for the residents.
His No. 1 priority is to concentrate on managing growth within the county.
He wants to limit the space in which growth may occur, limit the density allowed on land designated for growth and limit the total number of new units allowed in each city and village.
County Board District 6
Eric J. Johnson – Republican
He is the SA director of governmental affairs.
Since the county can levy taxes, he wants to make sure property taxes, and therefore rent, do not increase.
He wants to make sure students have an appro priate voice in the community, since the district is half residents and half students.
Mario K. Kemp – Democrat
He is in favor of growth in DeKalb County, but wants to see it controlled.
He wants to see the quality of life increase, by acting before the town and its schools are overcrowded.
He is in favor of the DeKalb school referendum, but thinks it should have been addressed before now.
Thomas Specht – Republican
He is part of the DeKalb Neighborhood Task Force.
He wants to stop unrestricted growth in the county. He said the city acts too rapidly in adding homes and will suffer from it soon.
He is concerned about staying within the county budget.
Ruth Anne Tobias – Democrat (incumbent)
She is the chairwoman of the Public Policy Committee and a member of the ad-hoc committee analyzing space needs for the DeKalb County Jail.
She endorses purchasing the development rights to farmland in the area.
She favors the DeKalb school referendum and finding alternatives to property taxes for schools.
County Board District 7
Clifford H. Simonson – Democrat (incumbent)
He wants to concentrate on saving natural resources eliminated while destroying farmland.
He thinks impact fees should be implemented, so growth can pay its way.
He is concerned about water preservation issues that come with new housing developments.
Thomas Smith – Republican (incumbent)

Frank VanBuer – Democrat
He wants to make sure all spending costs by the County Board are analyzed closely.
He is concerned about protecting the environment from uncontrolled emissions of industrial and agricultural wastes while safeguarding open lands.
He thinks new developments must emphasize increasing local incomes without adding to excessive demands on public infrastructure.
