Peace Road construction wraps up

By Nick Swedberg

Travel along Peace Road between Pleasant Street and County Farm Road soon will be easier.

This section of Peace Road has been under construction since July, and will be completed sometime this week, said Bill Lorence of the DeKalb County Street Department.

Lorence said this is the second phase of making Peace Road a four-lane road.

“The capacity was at the point to make it four lanes,” Lorence said.

The county has been seeding the grass on the shoulders and doing a final cleanup of the area.

Some new businesses have sprung up along Peace Road in recent years.

“The general opinion is that the Peace Road corridor will be the future of business commerce,” said John Chatellier of Aspen Chiropractic, 650 Peace Road.

“I know this is where future new businesses will be,” Chatellier said.

Chatellier said the construction has not effected his business.

“Everyone feels this should have been done for a while,” Chatellier said. “The construction is late coming.”

Phil Martino, junior business management major said he travels Peace Road three times a week.

He did not think it was that congested, but thought that the road work would attract business to the area.

“I haven’t seen that many buildings breaking ground yet,” Martino said.

Jon Bowker, a junior finance major, agreed.

“I really have not seen a difference in traffic congestion,” Bowker said.”If they make it a four-lane road, they will attract more business there.”
