Two car accidents occurred within hours of each other Tuesday.

The first occurred at 1:26 p.m. on Route 64 and Esmond Road.

According to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Police report, a 1998 Buick, driven by Iona Ashley, 67, of Rockford, traveled eastbound on Route 64 when she continued straight onto the access road that meets Esmond Road.

Ashley entered the westbound lane and struck a 2002 Honda, driven by Steven Kosek, 52, of 1629 Huntington Road, traveling westbound on Route 64.

Ashley was flown by Life Line helicopter to St. Anthony Medical Center, while her passenger, Norman Ashley, 76, of Rockford, was transported to the medical center by a Kirkland ambulance. They were wearing seat belts.

Kosek was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital by the React helicopter, while his passenger, Joy Kuhnen, 52, of 1629 Huntington Road, was transported by a Sycamore ambulance. Neither wore seat belts.

At press time on Tuesday, Kosek and Kuhnen still were in the emergency room and were in stable condition.

The second accident occurred at 4:21 p.m. at the corner of Dresser and Annie Glidden Roads.

According to Sgt. Jim McDougall of the DeKalb police department, a red Buick Regal, driven by Trixie Cunz, 27, of 1403 1/2 E. Lincoln Highway, stopped at a stop sign at the corner of Dresser and Annie Glidden roads.

McDougall said Cunz proceeded to turn left when she pulled in front of a white Chevrolet pick-up truck, driven by David Strand, 48, of Sycamore, traveling northbound on Annie Glidden Road.

According to the Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Cunz was in fair condition at press time.

Cunz had three passengers with her, Isela Gomez, 23, of 31838 Adams Way, a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old, who were treated and released from Kishwaukee Hospital.

McDougall said Cunz was cited for failure to yield at an intersection and driving with a suspended license.
