Showing love to teachers
September 19, 2002
Besides the hundreds of books, Borders will now have more to offer teachers and other educators in the DeKalb area.
Borders, located at 2520 Sycamore Rd., will be holding its Educator Appreciation Weekend starting today through Sunday.
The event was formally called Teacher Appreciation, but it was changed to widen the definition to include college professors, Sunday school teachers and others that work in different parts of education.
“We expect to have a lot of people to come visit us,” said John Podulka, general manager for Borders.
The store will also sponsor a teacher’s reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
“It’s a way to celebrate and have event-like stuff,” Podulka said.
Also coming will be St. Charles’ author Stephen Miller, who will be reading from his book “Jesse’s Color Field” and signing copies.
“He will also stick around and be chatting with some of the folks who come through,” Podulka said.
There will be information tables set up from the NIU Theatre and Dance department, Ellwood House and the Garfield Farm Museum.
“It’s a way to let teachers know what’s out there,” Podulka said.
Free tote bags along with other gifts will be given to teachers, as well as raffle tickets.
Along with the events, all teachers, college instructors, librarians, teachers’ aides, home schoolers, retired teachers and Sunday school teachers will receive a 25 percent discount on items for personal and school use. Star Poll
