Dancing with grace
September 11, 2002
The Glass House Dance Company will perform a modern dance performance this Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. at Anderson Hall.
-The company originated at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign almost four years ago, when a choreographer brought a crew of dancers together. Since then, they have traveled all over Illinois.
“The company is more than dance,” said Lucrecia Blanco-Trimble, NIU’s associate professor in lighting design. “The dancers communicate their emotions to the audience.”
A majority of the six dancers in the company are graduate students from the U of I dance program, and many have a master’s degree in dance or music.
Saturday and Sunday’s performances will include two solos and four duets, which will range from light-hearted to serious pieces. Each piece will be four to seven minutes long and include large metal props.
“The company takes a completely different approach to dance,” Blanco-Trimble said. “It’s fun and intense.”
Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $5 for students and $8 for general public.
