ohl’s department store possibly coming to DeKalb is again on the list of items to be discussed at Monday’s city council meeting.
The Economic Development Committee already agreed on a proposal at its Tuesday meeting. On Monday, it will make a presentation to the DeKalb City Council.
The committee agreed to participate with DeKalb County for the development of the store, with the city contributing a maximum of $775,000 for the site.
City Manager Jim Connors said the committee will just be agreeing on what they did on before.
If everything gets approved, construction can begin next year. Connors will write up the final proposal, if approved.
Other items on the agenda include approving the use of micro-fridges in rooming houses.
“It’s hard to rent out spaces because they don’t allow cooking,” said Paul Rasmussen, community development director.
He also said micro-fridges would be a good solution because they don’t use that much power and need only one outlet.
If approved, University Plaza and Bromley Hall, the abandoned building on Edgebrook Drive would be therooming houses affected.
Another item on the agenda is parking on Garden Road, near Barsema Hall and the Engineering Building.
There is no parking allowed on the west side of the street. On the east side, the city wants to restrict parking from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Other areas with parking restrictions include Kimberly Drive, Hillcrest Drive and the residential part of Garden Road.
If passed, residential parking would be allowed after 7 p.m. on Garden Road and south of Hillcrest. On other streets, residential parking is not allowed from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.
If approved, it would only take about 10 days to enforce.
“We’ll allow some time before we start ticketing,” Connors said.
Approving the redistricting of the wards also will be on the agenda. The new population total is 39,018, with about 5,574 in each ward.
