NIU welcomes center

A new building is being added to NIU’s campus.

The Center for the Study of Family Violence and Sexual Assault will move from its current location in the Psychology/Computer Science building into a separate facility west of the Convocation Center.

The department of health and human services decided to build a new center for the program last year after receiving a federal grant from the state, said Julie Crouch, associate director for the center.

The center will house research programs for the treatment of victims and perpetrators of domestic and sexual violence, Crouch said. The center, however, will not provide direct services for victims.

While the center will not expand in terms of its program or staff, the additional space the new location provides is necessary, Crouch said.

The center expects construction of the building to be completed in late November.
