DeKalb man faces 36 years
June 17, 2002
After a short time in DeKalb County Jail, Wei Chih Tu was released after posting $15,000 bond.
Tu, 24, of DeKalb, was arrested by DeKalb police Thursday night for home invasion, aggravated unlawful restraint and domestic battery.
According to DeKalb police Lt. Jim Kayes, Tu went to the house of a female NIU student in the 900 block of Spiros Court. When the woman would not allow him into the apartment, Tu allegedly kicked the door in.
Once inside, reports said Tu beat the woman and forced her outside with a knife. The victim was able to escape from the apartment and run to safety.
She was later taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for treatment for bruises on her face and a swollen lip, Kayes said.
DeKalb police located Tu about 9 p.m. Thursday at a friend’s DeKalb apartment, whereupon he was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
If convicted of all charges, Tu could face up to 36 years in jail and more than $50,000 in fines.
Tu is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. July 12 at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore.
