New Releases

“Gumby Box Set” (2002) – Oh , it’s on for all you revelers in trippy childhood nostalgia. Yes, producers of this seven-disc box set were a bit … pokey in bringing the claymation to anxious collectors, but a seven-disc set loaded with features should satisfy any lingering needs to see Blockheads get their due. The set includes behind-the-scenes footage of animators producing “Gumby”; interviews with Art Clokey and his son, Joe Clokey; an interview with Dal McKennon, the voice of Gumby; the “Gumby” pilot episode and more.

“Mulholland Drive” (2001) – Maybe your odd psych major friend with access to bigger movie theaters has gushed about this David Lynch movie, which garnered plenty of head scratching and wishes for multiple viewings. Well, the DVD allows just that, but without any hints as to the narrative’s mysteries – unless you count the theatrical trailer as the elusive key.

“Serendipity Special Edition” (2001) – John Cusack equals swooning female hearts, even when the story veers off into the melodramatic. “Serendipity” still has its moments, and those moments are complemented by an “On The Set” making-of featurette, the director’s production diary, deleted scenes with director’s commentary, a still gallery and storyboard comparison.

“The Skulls II” (2002) – And you thought “Peter Pan 2” was a big stretch for the direct-to-video market. No Joshua Jackson this time, but the same secret fraternity fun. And in case you were wondering, there is a making-of featurette.

“Spy Game” (2001) – Here’s the movie where both mother and daughter can giggle like little school girls during the same movie for different reasons. Robert Redford and Brad Pitt star in the film, with a DVD that includes audio commentary by director Tony Scott, behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes with director’s commentary and requirements for the CIA.
