Former student awaits trial

After more than a year, former NIU student Todd Sean Allgood, of Sycamore, still awaits trial for the kidnapping and sexual assault of an NIU student.

On April 25, 2001, Allgood abducted the 21-year-old victim at gunpoint at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot near Illini Tire, 1031 W. Lincoln Highway, Kayes said.

Allgood allegedly forced the victim to drive her vehicle to his residence, the Edgebrook Trailer Park in Sycamore, where he sexually assaulted her. Afterward, Allgood made the victim drive back to Gabel Hall, where he exited the vehicle.

Police say Allgood wiped his fingerprints from the vehicle before exiting.

DeKalb police arrested Allgood after the victim told police where Allgood lived, Kayes said.

Allgood has been linked to two similar attacks in Mundelein, Ill. His DNA matched the DNA of the two previous cases, which occurred in December 1989 and February 1990.

Kayes added that all the cases have similar methods; each involved Allgood allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting the victim.

Prosecutors are trying to submit this evidence to help show Allgood’s intent, State’s Attorney Ron Matekaitis said.

Allgood’s attorneys filed a motion to keep the evidence from entering the case, which has caused the delay in the trial, DeKalb police Lt. Jim Kayes said.

Last week, defense attorneys filed motions before Judge Douglas Engel to keep the DNA evidence from the case. A ruling from Engel on the evidence is expected today, Matekaitis said.
