Floral designs bloom at show
April 15, 2002
With the arrival of spring comes the “Tulips and Treasures” floral design show presented by Glidden Campus Florist & Greenhouse and local charitable organization, Altrusa.
The show will feature 10 experienced floral designers creating arrangements and planters on stage. The designers will create arrangements for different occasions as well as new or fascinating designs, which will be given to members of the audience. The show will have cultural designs by a Japanese designer to supply those attending with a new outlook on design. The show also offers an antique and collectible sale in the lobby of the theater and a raffle for $500.
“The design show is a great night out,” said Glidden Florist manager Debbie Heiman in a press release. “Not only will you leave with a sense of making a difference in the community, but you may also walk away with a floral design worth $100 or more to spruce up your home.”
The show seeks to attract a large and diverse crowd of 500 to 600 people. All proceeds from the show will go to the local Altrusa organization. The nation-wide women’s club uses the proceeds to promote reading education in the community as well as to provide scholarships to area high school students. The club’s local outlet has 45 members, including one of the current owners of Glidden Florist, Wenke Hansen. Wenke Hansen has attended the show with co-owner Sven Oscar for over 25 years to show support for the community and Altrusa.
Glidden is at the top of the class for FTD florists and delivers to many local communities including Sycamore, Malta, Cortland, Creston, Shabbona, Waterman and Lee.
