Mango’s to offer reading day treats

Smoothies, shakes, malts, hot dogs, banana splits, avalanches and sundaes are some of the variety of treats that NIU students can purchase from Mango’s, 890 Pappas Drive.

Store manager Ken Straman said NIU students have supported the business, and Mango’s would like to thank its patrons.

To achieve this, the business will host its first Student Appreciation Day, featuring discounts and entertainment on reading day, Friday.

Located at the corner of Annie Glidden Road and Hillcrest Drive, the establishment will open at 11:30 a.m. Mango’s usually opens at 4:30 p.m., but the business wanted to provide longer business hours for students that day.

There will be discounts on menu items, including 50-cent hot dogs and 50 cents off all smoothies, Straman said.

The jazz band Dynamic Dual will provide customers with live entertainment. Its performance will start at 6:30 p.m.

Straman and his employees would like NIU students to come out and experience the relaxing atmosphere of their business.

“It (the appreciation day) gives students an opportunity to see what we have to offer and to relax before finals,” Amanda Russell, a Mango’s employee, said.

The student appreciation day also will be a farewell to Mango’s employees who will be graduating soon.

“I’m going to miss the girls that are graduating and going off to start their careers,” Straman said.

He indicated he wanted to thank Stacy, Deana, Kandace and Sara for their hard work.
