Quality and Quantity

Next week, four acts will invade Otto’s Niteclub, 118 E. Lincoln Highway.

Starting Tuesday, the club will shuffle through four days of big acts. Kicking off at 8 p.m. Tuesday is the rock band Papa Roach.

Rounding off the rest of the week is George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic on Wednesday, Jack Straw on Thursday and Mike and Joe on Friday.

With so many shows playing at Otto’s in a short time, General Manager Justin Pierson said he had to increase the staff in order to better prepare for the shows and the amount of people expected.

He said he is expecting that the Papa Roach and George Clinton shows will sell out.

“It’s going to be a hectic week,” Pierson said. “A typical Mike and Joe show is big, so having all these shows next week we will be huge.”

With two bands like Papa Roach and George Clinton, Pierson said Otto’s has had to do much more to accommodate the bands.

However, while bands are notorious for requesting extravagant/excessive items (for instance, tea service for eight or white linens everywhere), Pierson said there have been no such requests from any of the bands.

He added that Clinton’s band and entourage are going to be tough because they require six different dressing rooms.

“They told us to be prepared for at least 40 people,” Pierson said.

Pierson said that he thinks that next week is the start of something big in DeKalb and NIU.

“It’s good to have DeKalb and NIU bringing in big names, Pierson said. “The Convocation Center had a big February with Styx and Kansas and they had Ja Rule. Now we are here in March with all these names.”

Pierson eluded to the fact that the Convo Center was going to have B.B. King and Howard & the White Boys and Diamond Rio perform in April. Meanwhile, Pierson announced that Wilco will play April 21 at Otto’s. Tickets for that show are on sale now at Record Revolution, 807 W. Lincoln Highway, for $20.

“That’s what I like to see in DeKalb,” Pierson said. “It’s only going to get bigger from here as the Convo Center gets bigger. We are just embracing it.”courtesy photo
