Mailboxes were vandalized

DeKalb police are looking for a suspect involved with damaging 12 mailboxes in the 700 and 800 blocks of Kensington Boulevard and at Turnberry Court.

According to reports, the damage occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday. At least two suspects were involved; one driving the car, the other hitting the mailboxes with a baseball bat, DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said.

“It was just somebody with a ball-bat and nothing to do,” Kayes said.

Though there are no leads at the time, Kayes said the police department is offering a reward to anyone with information about the incident.

“If someone decides to turn these guys in, there will be a substantial reward and our eternal gratitude,” Kayes said.

Tampering with mailboxes is a federal offense, Kayes said. It is a Class A misdemeanor, and the offender could face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine for each mailbox.
