Buses, routes face changes
November 27, 2001
The Huskie Bus no longer will stop at the Human Resource Building located just off of West Lincoln Highway by the water tower.
Members of the Student Association Mass Transit Board voted to remove the stop, which is part of the Circle L route, last week. The bus will now turn onto Stadium Drive West.
Additional changes are being made to the bus system, as well. Starting in the spring of 2002, there will be two No. 5 buses, which travel to DuSable Hall and out to University Village and University Heights, SA transportation director Christy Hartnett said.
Hartnett added that the buses also will receive their long-awaited facelift.
“Because I have got so many questions about this, the Huskie logos will be added to the sides of the buses over the winter break,” she said.
At 7 p.m. today, the Mass Transit Board will host a transportation forum open to the public to discuss these issues as well as some other problems and questions plaguing students.
The meeting will address the newly-formed Fox Valley route. During a previous SA Mass Transit Board meeting the members voted for another stop on the route.
“The Fox Valley bus would originally just go to the Fox Valley Mall, but they wanted it to also go to the Aurora train station,” Hartnett said.
Another issue to be addressed is the parking problem. Although parking has always been a problem, board members will discuss overcrowded spaces in the Stevenson Towers parking lot, for example.
The last issue of the night will be the late night ride service.
“We hope a lot of people will come so we know what students want and so we can give it to them,” Hartnett said.
The transportation forum will be held in the Stevenson Towers cafeteria. Free food also will be available.
