It’s not easy driving on the green

Recent acts of criminal damage have been targeted at innocent golf carts.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, vandals entered two buildings at the Indian Creek Country Club in Shabbona and reportedly damaged at least 19 golf carts as well as landscaping.

Damage done to the golf carts included flattening of tires, bending of axles and various body damage, said detective Jim Rodgers of the sheriff’s office.

Anita O’Bryan, a manager at Indian Creek, said 11 of the carts damaged were rentals belonging to the country club, while the other eight belonged to club members.

Once all club members come in to check their carts, the number of carts damaged could increase, O’Bryan said. Until the club receives bills on all of the damages, a total dollar amount will be unknown, O’Bryan said.

Early estimates of total damages on just one cart come to about $2,500, she added.

Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 895-3272. Crime Stoppers offers rewards up to $1,000, and you can remain anonymous.
