$18,000 worth of cannabis found
October 17, 2001
Authorities confiscated 11.5 pounds of cannabis Monday from a DeKalb resident’s apartment.
Jonas Kidd, 36, of 1036 Pleasant St., was arrested after the North Central Narcotics Task Force found 11.5 pounds of cannabis and $612.
Kidd was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. He’s being held in the DeKalb County Jail, and as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, he had yet to post bond, set at $50,000.
Sgt. Jim Winters, supervisor of the NCNTF, said a warrant to search Kidd’s residence was granted by a judge. The warrant was issued after an investigation, but Winters couldn’t comment on the specifics of the investigation.
The amount of cannabis found is worth about $18,000 on the street, Winters said. He added that when incompacted, like it was, the cannabis could fill a box for a 21-inch television.
The North Central Narcotics Task Force started in 1988. It has three branches, one each in McHenry, Kane and DeKalb counties.
Since it started 13 years ago, NCNTF has helped make 1,029 drug related arrests in DeKalb County. From January to October of this year, there have been 92 arrests, Winters said.
“It’s a great way to pull together resources and manpower for narcotics investigations,” Winters said. “It’s an effective way to investigate narcotics.”
The NCNTF was assisted by the DeKalb Police Department and the Illinois State Police District 2 during the investigation of Kidd.
