Arrests made in conjunction with car burglaries
October 30, 2001
DeKalb police authorities have two men in custody in conjunction with the recent wave of car burglaries.
Lt. Jim Kayes of the DeKalb Police Department said two suspects have been arrested for the crimes, and he expects more later this week.
The suspects are believed to be behind a few of the 28 car break-ins. Specifically, these are the incidents that occurred around Greek Row last week, Kayes said.
Sgt. Jim McDougall of the DeKalb Police Department said attention initially was drawn to the suspects after one of the individuals was arrested in an unrelated case. While investigating him, officers found stolen merchandise, which they traced back to the burglaries.
Not all of the property reported stolen has been recovered yet, Kayes said, which leaves open the possibility that more people might be involved.
Among the items recovered were car stereos and clothing, Kayes said.
It is unknown if these individuals are responsible for the wave of vehicle vandalism that happened earlier this month.
More information on the arrests will be released later this week.
