SA Senate to vote on bill
October 11, 2001
At Sunday’s meeting, the Student Association Senate will vote on a bill to establish deputy directors for the various positions within the SA.
This bill first was proposed last year when Troy Caldwell was elected SA president. Working with him on the proposal was chief of staff Jesse Perez.
“The co-directors will assist the directors,” Perez said. “It will allow them both to get out and get to know what students want from their student government.”
In addition to aiding the directors, the deputy directors will help head up committees, attend meetings and take on some projects of their own. They also will be available when the directors are unable to be in the office.
The co-director positions were proposed in order to supplement the directors and to help more students get involved, Perez said.
If the senate votes in favor of this new bill, they will proceed to vote for another bill that will place the co-directors on the SA payroll.
If approved, the SA administration budget will increase by $1,000 in order to compensate for the new co-director positions, SA treasurer Karega Harris said. As a part of the SA, the co-directors will receive a minimum hourly wage of $5.25. This, however, will only be payable of up to 10 hours a week.
The senate will be meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Capitol Room at the Holmes Student Center.
